Scope note | The United Nations Consular Commission was established in 1947 to report on the observance of a ceasefire between the Dutch government and Indonesian nationalists in the Netherlands East Indies (modern day Indonesia). The Commission included six UN Security Council members - Australia, Belgium, France, China, the UK and the USA. Australia sent four military observers (peacekeepers) to the Commission. The UN Committee of Good Offices was also set up in order to negotiate a final settlement. |
