Description
Studio portrait probably of 2402 Private (Pte) Archibald Allan Johnstone, 7th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion, of Clifton Hill, Vic. Pte Johnstone enlisted on 28 May 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Persia on 10 August 1915. He died of wounds on 20 September 1918. He was Mentioned in Despatches for gallant conduct on the nights of 8 and 9 August and 12 and 13 August 1916. He was related to 738 Sergeant Donald W Johnstone, 5th Battalion who was killed in action on 11 December 1916 and Lieutenant Thomas W Johnstone MC, 8th Battalion, who returned to Australia on 22 August 1919.
