Description

Men of the 45th Battalion, following close behind a creeping artillery barrage, which is sweeping the enemy positions in front of Ascension Farm, near Le Verguier. These positions were the objective of the 12th Australian Infantry Brigade in this attack, and were successfully carried by them in the fighting that morning. Identified, left to right: 3113 Lance Corporal Herbert Bickerstaff MM; Lieutenant J. Lovell MM; 2043 Corporal Nicholas F. Lagutin MM; Private (Pte) W. Hoffmier; Pte W. Jones; Pte M. Stirling; Pte M. Lyons.
