Description

View of the operating theatre of the 1st Australian General Hospital. The operating theatre had accommodation for eight operating tables and was thus capable of dealing with any rush of cases. Also attached was a surgeons washroom (roomy), sterilizing room, sisters room, orderlies room and an instrument sharpening room. The waiting room was suitably warmed and also served as the x-ray theatre. Adjacent to this hut was the acute surgical ward and other surgical wards. On the other side of the hut a pre-operation or resuscitation ward was under construction. Identified, left to right: Private (Pte) Smith; Lance Corporal Bondietti; Pte Harris; Pte Binskin and Corporal Solomon.
