Description

An outdoors group portrait of a draft of men of the 18th Battalion, all unidentified, ready to proceed to England for embarkation to Australia. In the front row three sergeants (Sgt) (third and fourth from the left and fifth from the right) and a warrant officer class 2 (WO2) (sixth from the right) are wearing Military Medal (MM) ribbons. The WO2 (front row, fifth from the left) is wearing a ribbon. In the middle row two soldiers (second from the left and third from the right) are wearing MM ribbons. Note in the front row two soldiers (second and fourth from the right) have wound stripes on their left sleeve and a Sgt (second from the left) has an Anzac 'A' on his colour patch denoting Gallipoli service.
