In the early hours of 19 May 1915 a numerically superior Turkish force attacked towards the centre of the ANZAC position, attempting to recapture the beachhead and repulse them from the peninsula. The attack was unsuccessful, the Turkish forces suffering around ten thousand casualties in comparison to the Anzacs seven hundred casualties.
