Description

Having landed at Cape Helles on 25 April 2015, the Allies attempted to break through the Turkish defensive line surrounding the beachhead and capture the small village of Krithia as well as the prominent hill feature Achi Baba. This would enable them to the link up with the Allied force at Anzac Cove further north and begin rolling up the peninsula towards Constantinople, effectively seizing control of the Dardanelles. On 28 April, the British and French forces at Helles attacked north towards Krithia but were thrown back at the cost of heavy casualties. The attack was abandoned later that day.
