Bogadjim

This honour was awarded to the 57th/60th Infantry Battalion for the fighting around the village of Bogadjim, during the operations in the Markham–Ramu Valleys and the Finisterre, in New Guinea. Following the capture of Shaggy Ridge, the Australians pursued the Japanese to Madang. Leaving from Kankiryo, on Shaggy Ridge, the Australians patrolled towards Kwato and followed the Ioworo River towards Bagadjim, on the coast. Bogadjim had been an important base for the Japanese in the Ramu Valley and when the vanguard of the 57th/60th entered the village they found trucks, an engineer dump, and a signals centre.
