Mivo River
Description
This honour was awarded for participation in the successful advance from the Mobiai River to the Mivo River, in Bougainville’s Southern Sector. The Australians continued their successful tactic of advancing along two axes, along Buin and Commando Roads, moving with forward by patrolling actions, were infantry patrols had the support of tanks. The Australians were also able to call in artillery and air strikes to help overcome the Japanese defences. The Mivo was the limit of the Australian in the Southern Sector.
