Platypus IV
Description
The Platypus series of missions were carried out during the Second World War by members of the Services Reconnaissance Department (SRD) to support Operation Oboe 2, the Allied landings at Balikpapan, Borneo. Platypus IV mission, led by Lt Robert Tapper, was to extract informants from Balikpapan and use local operatives to disseminate rumours regarding the landing in phase III. Local operatives were inserted by Catalina on 16 June 1945. The party, including additional local informants were extracted and flown to Morotai on 22nd June 1945.
