Description

An officer of HMAS Australia made this sketch of the German cruiser Karlsruhe, which was blown up accidentally on 4 November 1914 while on her way to raid Barbados. Karslruhe was a 4820 ton light cruiser and carried 12 4.1 inch guns. She was responsible for taking or sinking 16 British merchant ships in the Atlantic Ocean during a three month period.
