Description
The light cruiser Emden, which was built during the First World War and was the namesake of the Pacific raider smashed by HMAS Sydney at Cocos Island in 1914. Appropriately, when the German fleet surrendered on 21 November 1918, and each ship of the Grand Fleet was assigned a German ship to inspect for concealed explosives and to instruct on movements to Scapa Flow, HMAS Sydney was given charge of the Emden.
