South Vietnam. 1968-08-12. An armoured personnel carrier (APC) commander of A Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, swivels his .30 calibre machine guns around while on patrol during Operation Platypus in Phuoc Tuy Province. Operation Platypus, a reconnaissance-in-force operation, involved the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), and supporting armour, artillery and engineer units of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF).
