Vietnam. 1966-06. A bare-chested Captain John Gill of Shepparton, Vic, a helicopter pilot with 161 Reconnaissance Flight RAAF wearing his dog tag, writes in his flying log book after "his most exciting moment". He was flying the CO of the 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (5RAR), Colonel J. A. Warr, into company positions during Operation Hardihood and had just landed in a jungle helipad when the Viet Cong opened fire on his machine.
