The head of the Sphinx. In the annals of Egyptian Antiquity, the Sphinx is the colossal stone figure of a creature with the head of a man or an animal with the body of a lion, situated near the pyramids of El Giza near Cairo, and was a popular tourist attraction for Australian troops in Egypt during the First World War.
