Description
The island of Imbros here seen at sunset is one of a group of islands in the Aegean Sea situated to the west of the entrance to the Dardanelles. Together with the islands of Lemnos and Tenedos, Imbros was lent by the Greek Government to the British and French Governments for use as bases for the Allied forces during the Gallipoli campaign. One of a series of photographs taken on the Gallipoli Peninsula under the direction of Captain C E W Bean of the Australian Historical Mission, during the months of February and March, 1919.
