Studio portrait of 3362 Private (Pte) Alexander Mathew Leckie, 8th Light Horse Regiment from Finley, NSW. A 24 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 18 October 1916, he embarked for overseas service with the 28th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Port Lincoln (A17) on 22 June 1917. After disembarking in Egypt, he trained with the Machine Gun Training Squadron before transferring to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron. He served with them in the Middle East before he returned to Australia on 26 August 1919.
