Studio portrait of 2127 Private (Pte) Walter Sydney Emery, 2nd Battalion. A clerk from Armadale, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Emery embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Sydney on 16 June 1915 on HMAT Karoola. Originally declared missing believed wounded, a Board of Enquiry later determined that he was killed in action on 8 August 1915 at Gallipoli. He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial. His brother , 561 Lance Corporal Robert Norman Emery was also killed at Gallipoli.
