Description
Studio portrait of 1641 Private (Pte) George Clarence Garlick, 26th Battalion from New Norfolk, Tasmania. A 29 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 21 February 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 1st Reinforcements of the 40th Battalion from Hobart on 1 July 1916 aboard HMAT Berrima. On arrival in France he transferred to the 26th Battalion and was wounded in action at Warlancourt on 2 March 1917. Pte Garlick died of his wounds on 17 March 1917 and was buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
