Studio portrait of 3422 Private (Pte) Patrick McLean, 50th Battalion from Seven Hills, South Australia. A 22 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 26 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion from Adelaide on 27 October 1915 aboard HMAT Benalla (A24). After further training in Egypt, he transferred to the 50th Battalion and proceeded to France where he was killed in action at Mouquet Farm on 16 August 1916. Pte McLean is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
