Description
Studio portrait of 2nd Lieutenant Louis Carl Roth, wearing cap and collar badges of the 46th Infantry (Brighton Rifles). A civil engineer and surveyor of Elsternwick, he later served in the First World War, progressing from Lieutenant to Captain of the 2nd Pioneer Battalion, and was awarded a Military Cross (MC) on 18 April 1918. On 6 October 1918 he died of wounds received whilst serving in France, aged 24 years.
