Description
Private (Pte) L. A. Johnson, 4th Field Ambulance, with one of the donkeys used by 202 Pte John Simpson Kirkpatrick (who enlisted as John Simpson) of the 3rd Field Ambulance at Anzac. The photograph was originally stated to show Kirkpatrick himself but Pte Johnson later identified it was a photograph taken of him by Lieutenant Colonel J. L. Beeston three or four weeks after Kirkpatrick had been killed on 19 May 1915. For authentic photographs of Kirkpatrick see A02826, A02827 and A03113, A03114, A03115, A03116, A03117. (Donated by Mr A.
