Abstract

17th (Leicestershire) Regiment was ordered to proceed to New South Wales in 1828 to act as guard detechements on convict transports.
In 1835, King George IV approved the regiment to bear on its colours and appurtenances of the figure of the Royal Tiger with the word ' Hindoostan ' superscribed in recognition of its service in India.
