Abstract

Lachlan Macquarie (1762 - 1824), soldier,governor, explorer, is one of the famous figures of Australian history. Macquarie spent all his adult life in the army. The symbol of that service, Macquarie's sword, is now part of the collection of the National Museum of Australia.
