Abstract

Series of articles on the British garrison in Australia from 1788 to 1841.
The role of the bands of the garrison regiments was to provide entertainment to the Vice regal and military society but also for the wider colonial society, giving some relaxation from the rawness of life in the penal settlement.
Also included is a short history of the 73rd Regiment and list of soldiers who transfered to the 46th.
