Mustard gas : the experience of the 25th Battalion AIF, October - November 1917 / Paul Sutton
Abstract
In this article the author describes experiences that the 25th Battalion had during October - November 1917 with the exposure to Mustard Gas attacks by the Germans. Using graphs, he broke down the number of soldiers who entered medical evacuation with the highest number being of the first day of the gas attacks. Also the author goes on to describe the history of the use of chemical weapons in the First World War, where the French were the first use chemical weapons in August 1914. The author concludes by stating that the hardship of those who were exposed to Mustard gas lasted not on for the duration of the war but the rest of their lives.
