Note | Representing United States Armed Forces Lt. Gen Bruce C. Clarke, United States Army, Pacific. Accompanying Staff: Colonel R. G. Fergusson, Major G. S. Simpson, Aide-de-Camp. Travel to Sydney, Australia by Pan American World Airways and Travel in Australia via Royal Australian Air Force. Includes an index. This brochure has been prepared for the purpose of making available for pertinent use, a record of the 1955 United States representation at the Battle of Coral Sea celebrations in Australia. It is my belief that the importance of this representation in the past and in the succeeding years cannot be overestimated, both as a demonstration of the natural friendship between Australia and the United States, and also as a means of focusing the need for continued tangible efforts for maintenance of such a frien dship. I have expressed my personal appreciation to proper officials in Australia and in the Department of Defense, United States, for this opportunity. Herein are presented the original schedules and deviations there from; biographies and pictures of p ersonalities which were available prior to departure ; brief background information of Australia and visited cities ; photostats of press coverage; and four typical addresses prepared prior to departure. It is hoped that the future Battle of the Coral Se a Celebrations will be equally successful and that there will be similar participation by a United States Representative.--Bruce C. Clarke, Lieutenant General, USA. |
