Note | Her significant postings were to Brisbane (Ninth Avenue, Kedron) into the 2nd Australian company signals unit (which used American wireless sets to intercept Japanese mores code signals and write down the morse signals, known as "Japanese Kana code", or Wabun). Includes Bibliographical references (page 63) We all knew that Auntie Rein was special. We feel blessed to have an aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt who is such an importatnt part of our family lives. She connects us all and is interested in every family member. You can rely on Auntie Reinee to know where everyone is, what they are doing, how the newest arrival is faring. But it was when I finally got inspired, by a Australian War Memorial website suggesting oral histories, that I delved more carefully into what she had actually done during W orld War 2. Her modest declaration that "I didn't do much" became a different reality. She had done much and it was quietly done without any acknowledgement. That's the way it is. You don't blow your own trumpet. I am glad I finally organized to spen d three and a half hours tracing Auntie Reinee's movements during the War. It was fun to do, and it turned up much more than I expected. - Dale Williamson (nee Mason), September 2017. -- Introduction. General. |
