Lightweight air warning and G.C.I. Radar in Australia / J N Briton.
The problem of providing the Air Warning, Height Finding and G.C.I. requirements of the R.A.A.F. and U.S.A.A.F. consisted of two distinct parts. The first involved the determination of the correct physical principles to meet the operational requirement, and was thus, primarily, a matter for the physicist. Thereafter, the problem concerned the development and preparation for production of an equipment embodying in full the correct physical principles. The paper outlines in a general way the manner in which these equipments were used during the campaigns in the S.W.P.A., and describes the topographical and climatological conditions under which the equipments were delivered to their point of application and put into service. The equipments actually used during the war, and the new equipments, which were designed to overcome various disadvantages of the earlier models are briefly described.
