Tripolitania, Libya. 17 February 1943. Lunch is well on the way. Cornish pasties, boiled potatoes, green peas with marmalade tart and baked rice pudding are on the menu. Bert, the cook, glazes the pastry with white of egg applied with a shaving brush which he bought in England, and which he uses exclusively for his pastry.
