Description

Hollywood film star Debbie Reynolds took a fancy to the famous Australian digger (slouch) hat, during her tour of Korea, so she borrowed one from Corporal (Cpl) Mike Hammer (centre) of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). Cpl Hammer and 12590 Cpl Thomas John Kenny (right) of Babinda, Qld, dropped in to see Miss Reynolds when she put on a show at a nearby American camp on the Korean truce line. Miss Reynolds was impressed by their slouch hats and by the size of the two corporals, both well over six feet tall. ' Do you all grow that big in Australia ?', she asked. Cpl Hammer, who comes from Darling Point, Sydney, NSW, is due to return home in a couple of weeks' time after completing twelve months' tour of duty in Korea.
