Townsville, Qld. 1944-04-11. US Fifth Air Force Service Command at Garbutt airfield. RAAF fitters, working under US supervision do practical work on the starboard Pratt and Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engines of the US Army Air Force B-24D Liberator aircraft which has been modified for transport work and allotted to the Air Transport Command, for use on the trans-Pacific service. These RAAF fitters are being trained on B-24 maintenance prior to the RAAF's acquisition of B-24s.
