Major Max White
Description
Major Max White enlisted for First World War service with the British Royal Field Artillery, during which time he received a recommendation for the Military Cross. The action for which he was awarded took place at Pozieres in August 1916 where the Lahore Artillery were tasked with covering the Australian 4th Division advance. The award was later promulgated in the Supplement to the London Gazette, 20 October, 1916.
On return to Australia, he commanded a troop of the 24th Light Horse Regiment, and later enlisted for Second World War service with the Australian Army. He was assigned to the North Australia Observer Unit (NAOU) where he served until its disbandment in 1945.
