Description

Flight Sergeant John Vernon Stanley enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 20 July 1941. He undertook air crew training in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, and went on to serve as a bomb aimer with 460 Squadron, based in the United Kingdom. With his unit, Flight Sergeant Stanley participated in bombing operations on strategic targets in Germany and Italy. On 13 June 1943, Flight Sergeant Stanley was killed in a flying battle over Germany. He is buried at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Kleve, Germany.
