Description

Stoker Leonard Doolan Fitzgerald enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on 22 September 1939. He served on the HMAS Sydney II between January and September 1940, while the ship was serving in the Mediterranean. He was then transferred, and served at RAN bases such as HMAS Kattabul, HMAS Penguin, HMAS Platypus, HMAS Moreton, HMAS Madang, and HMAS Lonsdale. Stoker Fitzgerald was discharged from the RAN on 28 September 1951. From November 1952, Stoker Fitzgerald served five years with the Royal Australian Fleet Reserve.
