Private John Morgan Jenkins
Description
Private John Morgan Jenkins (1691A, 21st Battalion) was born on 8 December 1899 in Broken Hill, NSW. He was working as a blacksmith when he enlisted in May 1915 at Seymour, VIC, under the name of John Thomas Jenkins. John was posted as missing in action on 1 August 1916 during the battle of Pozieres. His body was not found and despite conflicting reports of the date, a court of enquiry in July 1917 concluded that John had been killed in action the same day. John is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. He was 16 years 8 months at the time of his death.
