Private Albert Mummery
Description
Private Albert Mummery (1240, 23rd Battalion) was born in Ramsgate, England, and moved to Australia at the age of 16. He was working as a labourer in Melbourne when he enlisted in March 1915. Albert received shrapnel wounds to his back on 15 October 1915 and died the following day before he could be transferred to Mudros. He is buried in the Beach Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey. Albert’s brother wrote that he was 17 years of age at the time of his death.
