Private Robert Lionel Meredith
Description
Private Robert Lionel Meredith (2178, 45th Battalion) was born in Bulli, NSW. He was still at school when he enlisted in February 1916 under the alias Robert Falconer. Robert was killed in action on 7 June 1916 during the battle of Messines and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. Robert’s mother later wrote that he was 17 years 3 months of age at the time of his death. Robert’s uncle, Lance Corporal William Chapman, was killed in action in France and his cousin, Private John James Remilton, was killed in action in Belgium.
