Private Alfred John Wilson
Description
Private Alfred John Wilson (3489, 59th Battalion) was born in Elsternwick, Victoria. He was working as a milk carter when he enlisted in May 1917. Alfred died on 9 April 1918 of wounds received in action at Hamelet, France, during the German Spring Offensive of 1918. He is buried in the St Pierre Cemetery, Amiens, France. Alfred’s mother wrote that he was 17 years 3 months of age. Alfred’s brother, Lance Corporal Rupert George, also served in the 59th Battalion as a Lewis machine gunner.
