Private Ernest Wills Beer
Description
Private Ernest Wills Beer (1913, 6th Battalion) was born 15 March 1898 in Mackay, Queensland. He was working as a butcher when he enlisted in March 1915. Ernest suffered gunshot wounds to both arms near Sniper’s Trench, Gallipoli on 6 August 1915. He was evacuated to the Hospital Ship “Delta”, but his wounds turned gangrene. Ernest died on 9 August 1915 and was buried at sea, aged 17 years 4 months. He is commemorated at the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli. Ernest’s cousin Lance Corporal Frederick Francis Dunn was awarded the Military Medal.
