Private Leslie Smith
Description
Private Donald Collins Leslie Smith (3939, 4th Pioneer Battalion) was born on 21 May 1900 in Rosewood, Queensland. He was working on a farm when he enlisted at Ipswich on 26 November 1915. Leslie was wounded by a high explosive shell on 24 September 1917 near Ypres. He died the following day at the 2nd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station from a fractured skull and shrapnel wounds to his shoulders. Leslie is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. He was 17 years 4 months old at the time of his death.
