Private George Bently Guymer
Description
Private George Bently Guymer (5679, 4th Pioneer Battalion) was born on 19 September 1899. He was working as a blacksmith in Yangan, Queensland, when he enlisted in February 1916. George joined the 4th Pioneer Battalion in France in early March 1917. He was mortally wounded by a shell blast near Messines on 3 June 1917 as the Pioneers carried out roadwork around Neuve Eglise and Wulverghem. George died from his wounds the following day at 53rd Casualty Clearing Station and was buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), France. He was 17 years 8 months at the time of his death.
