Private Francis Adrian Oscar Herbert Ross
Description
Private Francis Adrian Oscar Ross (6305, 9th Battalion) was born in Stockinbingal, NSW. He was working on a farm at Proserpine, Queensland, when he enlisted in April 1916. Francis was killed by a high explosive shell during action at Polygon Wood on 20 September 1917. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. Francis’ mother wrote that he was 17 years, 8 months and 18 days of age at the time of his death.
