Private Roy Cruickshanks
Description
Private Roy Cruickshanks (3282, 53rd Battalion) was a carter from Darlinghurst, NSW. Roy was killed on 19 July 1916 during the battle of Fromelles. Roy is commemorated at the V.C. Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles, France. His mother wrote that he was 17 years 9 months of age. Roy’s cousin, Corporal Henry Ernest Hampstead, died of wounds received during the battle of Menin Road.
