Private Owen Thomas Domeney
Description
Private Owen Thomas Domeney (2560, 40th Battalion) was born in Zeehan, Tasmania. He was working as an orchardist at Flowerpot, Tasmania, when he enlisted in October 1916. Owen was killed in action on 7 June 1917 during the battle of Messines and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. His mother wrote that he was 17 years 9 months of age. Owen had two brothers who also served in the AIF and were both decorated: Captain William Lemuel Edward Domeney (15th Battalion) was awarded a Military Cross and Lance Corporal Edward Tolman Domeney (12th Battalion) was awarded a Military Medal.
