Private Archibald Royston Park
Description
Private Archibald “Archie” Royston Park (2019, 6th Battalion) was born in Footscray, Victoria. He was working as a butcher when he enlisted in March 1915. Archie was officially listed as killed in action on or about 13 July 1915. However his cousin, Private William James Patterson Smith, was also serving on Gallipoli at the time and later wrote that Archie had been with the 6th Battalion which attacked the German Officers’ Trench at Steele’s Post on the night of 6–7 August 1915. Archie is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey. Archie’s mother wrote that he was 17 years and 10 months of age at the time of his death.
