Trooper George Rothwell Seager
Description
Private George Rothwell (Routhwell) Seager (62, 9th Light Horse Regiment) was born on 12 September 1897 in Gippsland, Victoria. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy in June 1912 and was amongst the first intake of boys to join the HMAS Tingira. In October 1914 George resigned from the RAN and joined the AIF, claiming his age as 19 years and 1 month. He was killed in the battle of Lone Pine on 7 August 1915, aged 17 years 10 months, and is buried in Ari Burnu Cemetery, Gallipoli. George had two older brothers who also fought at Gallipoli, Captain Harold William Hastings Seager MC and Sergeant Ernest Clarendon Seager DCM.
