Description
Private Albert James Anderson (2683, 48th Battalion) was born in Balmain, NSW, but was working as a labourer in Western Australia when he enlisted as a bugler in December 1915 aged 15 years 2 months. At the request of his mother, Albert was discharged in March 1916 due to his age. However Albert enlisted again in May 1916 using the alias James Hegarty and claiming to be 19 years 2 months. Albert died of bronchitis on 22 February 1917 at the Sutton Veny Military Hospital at the true age of 16 years 4 months. Albert is buried in the Sutton Veny (St John) Churchyard, Sutton Veny, United Kingdom.
