Private William Ewart Mortensen
Description
Private William Ewart Mortensen (3077, 9th Battalion) was born in Leichhardt, NSW, in 1899. He was working as a farm labourer when he enlisted in July 1915. William was killed in action on 20 April 1916 near Armentieres when the reserve billets were heavily shelled. He is buried in the Rue-du-Bacquerot (13th London) Graveyard, Laventie, France. William was 17 years old. His brother, Private Alfred Victor Mortensen, served with the 49th Battalion.
