Private Harrie Hanley Holmes
Description
Private Harrie Hanley Holmes (633, 28th Battalion) was born in June 1899 in Perth, WA. He was working as a clerk in Claremont, WA, when he enlisted in March 1915 declaring his age correctly as 16 years 9 months. Harrie was killed in action on 5 August 1916 during the battle of Pozieres and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was 17 years 2 months of age at the time of his death. Harrie’s brother, Private Horace Lister Holmes, served in the AIF with the 51st Battalion.
